Bob Dylan - Not Dark Yet

I can't believe this performance was thirteen years ago! This song captures my mood right now...the political scene is so bleak, the banner-bearers of a resurgent fascism are everywhere growing bolder. I feel as though we are reduced to living, here and there, in tiny, shrinking enclaves of light in a world of gathering darkness.

My American Hero

"The deepest level of communication is not communication, but communion. It is wordless. It is beyond words, it is beyond speech, and it is beyond concept. Not that we discover a new unity. We discover an older unity. My dear Brothers, we are already one. But we imagine that we are not. And what we have to recover is our original unity. What we have to be is what we are." - Thomas Merton: The Asian Journal

Woody Guthrie

Mann und Frau den Monde betrachtend - Caspar David Friedrich

Feeling gloomy, autumnal and German...so naturally I had to post something by the morose and sublime Caspar David Friedrich.

Si iniquitates observaveris - Samuel Wesley

Invincible beauty! Irrefutable, victorious beauty!

Rivendell - J.R.R. Tolkien

Archbishop Desmond Tutu

This is what a bishop is supposed to be. "If governments knew how subversive contemplative prayer is, they would ban it." - Desmond Tutu

Sir Kay Breaketh His Sword at ye Tournament - Howard Pyle

Howard Pyle was one of the great lights of the Golden Age of illustration. Along with his pupil, the magnificent N.C. Wyeth, he is among the greatest of American illustrators. The above is from his book, The Story of King Arthur and his Knights.
